The scene represents the great ceremony of February 27, 1848, three days after the fall of Louis-Philippe: the National Guard and the Parisian population gather around the July Column, Place de la Bastille, to recognize the Provisional Government and celebrate the new Republic.
The view is decoartive, the July column dominates the entire composition, with a very wide view of the Place de la Bastille and thousands of characters.
