"Le peuple brûle le trône...." "The people burn the throne..."

Large antique lithography by Victor ADAM(1801–1866) and Jules Arnoult (1814–1868).

The legend specifies the event: "On leaving the Tuileries, the people carried away the throne as a trophy of their victory and burned it at the foot of the column of July, to universal acclamations. (On the 24th, at 6 o'clock in the evening.)"

The scene represents 24 February 1848, after the fall of Louis-Philippe. The royal throne from the Tuileries Palace was transported to the Place de la Bastille and then burned at the foot of the July column.
