Large antique lithography by Victor ADAM(1801–1866) and Jules Arnoult (1814–1868).

The view depicts February 24, 1848, at the time of the fall of the July monarchy. After the abdication of Louis-Philippe, the Duchess of Orléans, accompanied by her children, went to the Chamber of Deputies in the hope of having her son, the Count of Paris, recognized and establishing a regency.

The attempt fails when the revolutionaries invade the Chamber. We see the deputies leaving the stands while the crowd takes possession of the hemicycle. The BnF accurately describes the duchess leaving the Chamber through a small door while the insurgents invade the stands and the gallery.

It is therefore a major scene of the French Revolution of 1848, immediately prior to the proclamation of the Second Republic.
